The short answer

Australian sellers list mushroom grow kits on their own websites, and the three we looked at on 20 October 2026 were priced between A$33.00 and A$36.95. A kit is "a pre-assembled package that contains everything you need to start growing mushrooms at home." 1 Check the kit type, the shipping rules for your state and the stock status before you order.

What a mushroom grow kit is

A grow kit is a head start. Mycelium is the mushroom's root-like network of threads.

One Australian seller describes a kit as "a pre-assembled package that contains everything you need to start growing mushrooms at home." 1 It says a typical kit includes a substrate, which is the material the mushrooms grow on, plus mycelium. It adds that some kits also have items like a humidity tent or spray bottle. 1

The Little Acre and Myconet kits we looked at are oyster mushroom kits, and the Rootlab kit is sold under an oyster name. For watering, the same seller advises you to "use a misting bottle to gently water your mushroom kit, keeping the substrate moist but not waterlogged." 1

This page is only about kits that grow culinary mushrooms for the kitchen.

Examples of kits sold in Australia

We looked at the product pages of three Australian sellers on 20 October 2026. This is a sample, not a full list of everything on sale. Prices change, so treat the figures below as a snapshot and check the seller's page.

Little Acre lists a White Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit at A$36.95 with tax included. The box has "a step-by-step instruction card", "a spray bottle to mist your kit", a recipe card and "the ready-to-grow mushroom block (inoculated with White Oyster AKA Pleurotus ostreatus)". 2 The page rates the skill level as "Beginner" and lists "2-3 harvests". 2

Myconet Solutions lists a Blue Oyster kit at A$35.00. Its page said "Sold out" when we looked. It also says the kits are "MADE TO ORDER", so shipment can take "up to 2 weeks from order date." 3

Rootlab lists a Snow White Oyster "Inject & Grow" kit at A$33.00 including GST. It is a different style of kit, which the next section explains. 4

Ready-to-fruit kits and inject-and-grow kits

Not every kit works the same way. Read the product page before you pay.

The Little Acre kit comes as an inoculated block. The page says to cut an X into the bag and to "mist with water a couple of times a day". 2

The Rootlab Inject & Grow kit asks you to do more. It includes "one syringe with liquid culture from the species you choose contained in a 10 ml syringe + needle". 4 Rootlab says its kit "steps you through the inoculation, colonization, and fruiting stages." 4

Rootlab warns: "Expect a small harvest as it is just a 1 kg bag." It also says "the entire process takes about 45 to 60 days, sometimes longer in winter." 4

Pick the style that matches how much time and effort you want to put in.

How much harvest to expect

Sellers describe harvests in different ways, so read the wording. Little Acre's page lists "2-3 harvests" for its White Oyster kit. 2 Rootlab says to "expect a small harvest" from its 1 kg bag. 4

These are the sellers' own descriptions, not promises. Ask the seller if you need to know what a particular kit will produce.

Check shipping before you order

Shipping rules differ by seller. Of the three we looked at, two mention limits on shipping to Western Australia. We did not check Little Acre's shipping rules.

Myconet says: "NOTE - We cannot ship to Western Australia or the NT". 3 Rootlab's page says: "We can ship to Western Australia except for Wood ear, Reishi, and Lion's Mane." 4 The page does not say which of its kits that applies to.

These are statements from each seller about one product. A different product from the same seller may have different rules, so check the page for the exact kit.

Also check the stock status and dispatch times. A banner on the Little Acre page said "Dispatch times are extended as we take a short break". 2 Myconet showed its Blue Oyster kit as "Sold out" when we looked. 3

Does Bunnings sell a mushroom kit?

If you were hoping for a Bunnings kit, this page does not list one. We could not confirm what Bunnings Australia has in stock, so we make no claim either way.

The simple way to find out is to search the Bunnings website or ask at your local store. Check the product name, the mushroom type and whether the kit is ready to fruit or needs inoculating, using the questions in the next section.

Questions to ask before you buy

- Is the block ready to fruit, or do you inoculate it yourself? - Which mushroom is it, and what temperature does the seller give for fruiting? - Is the price in Australian dollars, and does it include GST? - Will the seller ship to your state, and is the kit in stock? - What do you get in the box? Little Acre, for example, lists a spray bottle, an instruction card and a recipe card. 2
